Next Generation Mattioli Makes Racing News
Long Pond, PA… Having just completed his licensing school, and competing in his very first road race, 16 year old Chase Mattioli won Round 4 of the Bertil Roos F-2000 Race Series, at a rain soaked Virginia International Raceway.
If the name sounds familiar to race fans, it should. Chase is the son of Joe & Lovena Mattioli, and grandson of Pocono Raceway owner Doc. Mattioli.
Displaying a level of driving maturity that belies his age, Mattioli slowly worked his way to the front from his 3rd row qualifying position. When Tim Nichols, of Dallas, Texas experienced mechanical difficulties, Mattioli gained the lead. As the rain intensified, he was able to string together a series of mistake free laps that landed him in victory circle.
“What impressed me the most was how he handled himself after gaining the lead” said Bertil Roos President Dennis Macchio. In those conditions, even seasoned drivers are prone to making mistakes while leading. “For someone that young, and with almost no road racing experience, it was quite impressive.”
Chase, who is the third member of the family to compete in the series (cousins Brandon and Nick Igdalsky have also competed) plans to run the balance of the season. His next outing will be at the BeaveRun circuit near Pittsburgh, on July 30th, and then it’s back to his home track at Pocono for the final three races.
