Bertil Roos Race Series Champions Roar to Wins at Thunderbolt Course

MILLVILLE, N.J. — The two most recent Bertil Roos Race Series champions Tim Nichols and Andy Ourant and current points leader Seth Foley earned wins at the BRRS event at New Jersey Motorsports Park’s Thunderbolt Course.

Nichols, the most decorated driver in BRRS history as the leader in career wins, podium finishes and starts, qualified third for the first Group 1 race. He worked his way to the front to earn his third win of the season and a record 57thcareer victory.

Foley earned the pole for the race with a lap of 1:40.62, just .03 of a second faster than Derek Jose’s fast time. Foley ended second in the race and Jose rounded out the podium finishers.

Geoff Valentino and Vinnie Virga rounded out the top five.

Foley quickly set the pace in race 2. Rolling to the win, he matched Nichols with his third win of the season.

Valentino ran second as Jose earned another podium finish. Nichols and Jimmy Dai were the other top-five finishers.

Ourant, the defending BRRS champion, scored the win in the lone Group 2 race as pole sitter Tommy Cadwalader struggled to a ninth-place finish. Running a limited schedule this season, it was Ourant’s third win in five races.

Glenn Brooks charged from a sixth-place starting spot to finish second and Ira Nesbitt came from ninth to finish third. Kirk Weatherman and Gabe Jasper took the fourth and fifth-place spots.

Heavy rain and coincidentally, thunder and lightning, made it impossible to safely continue the event. It caused the postponement of the second Group 2 race until practice day for the next event to be held at Pocono Raceway, Aug. 30-31.

At the halfway point of the season, Foley holds a 10-point lead (164-154) over Nichols in the championship standings. Valentino is third at 147 points, followed by Jose and Virga.

The next BRRS races will be held Aug. 30-31 at Pocono Raceway’s 1.5-mile, seven-turn, North course.
