Dai, Jasper Duo Race to Palm Beach Victories

JUPITER, Fla. — Points leader Jimmy Dai and the father-son combination of Gabe and Phillip Jasper dominated action at the Bertil Roos Winter Race Series event January 9-10 at Palm Beach International Raceway.

Gabe Jasper raced to his third and fourth straight wins in Group 1 action. After setting the fast time in qualifying at 1:33.18 around the 2.2-mile road course, he held off Bob Perlmutter for the win in the first race. Frank Anelante captured the third spot with Charles Shiner and rookie driver Randy Russell rounding out the top five.

Jasper continued to set the pace in the second race, while the rest of the top five finished in the same spots.

Phillip Jasper was the man to beat in Group 2 and his qualifying run of 1:33.10 was the quickest of anyone. Rookie Chris Willcox proved to be a fast learner and he challenged Jasper for the top spot.

No one could overpower Jasper, who rolled to the first Group 2 victory. Willcox finished second ahead of Vinnie Virga, who took the final podium spot. Joe Lattanzi finished fourth. The results of the second Group 2 race mirrored the first with Jasper again proving hard to overcome, followed by Willcox and Virga with Lattanzi again missing out on the final podium spot.

Jimmy Dai had the quick time for Group 3 and he raced to the win over Kirk Weatherman. Ben Corson rounded out the podium finishers with Bryan Sircely fourth after Reiner Oberst, who ran strong early, had trouble and wasn’t able to finish.

Dai secured the weekend sweep in the second race, which was his third straight win in the series overall. Weatherman again was runner-up and Corson was third. Sircely and Oberst rounded out the top five.

With an incredible start of five wins and a runner-up finish in six races, Dai has a 144-133 points lead over Gabe Jasper in the Winter Series standings. Weatherman ranks third with 132 points, followed Willcox with 128 points and Phillip Jasper with 118 points. 

Perlmutter and Sircely are tied for sixth, just one point outside the top five.

The series shifts to Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, S.C., for the next Winter Series event, February 21-22.

Jasper Sweep Highlights Palm Beach Event

JUPITER, Fla. — Gabe Jasper found the fast track to success at the most recent Bertil Roos Winter Race Series weekend December 20-21 at Palm Beach International Raceway.

Jasper led qualifying with a fast lap of 1:45.55 around the 2.-2 mile course. He won the first Group 1 race with his son, Phillip, taking the runner-up spot. Chris Wilcox raced to the final podium spot.

The Jaspers were 1-2 in the next Group 1 race, giving Gabe the weekend sweep. Wilcox held off Bob Perimutter for third place with Joe Lattanzi rounding out the top five.

Reiner Oberst drove from third to first to win the first of two Group 2 races. Jimmy Dai captured the runner-up spot. Bryan Sircely, who posted the fastest qualifying time, ended up third.

The roles were reversed in the second Group 2 race with Dai capturing the win and Oberst taking the runner-up spot. Sirecly secured his second podium finish as Thomas Doughty and Joe Dounchis finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Kirk Weatherman won the first Group 3 race after posting the second-quickest qualifying time. Vinnie Virga charged to a second-place run, while fast qualifier Vincent Caintic was the third-place finisher. 

Virga and Weatherman switched positions in the second Group 3 race. Caintic followed them to the finish line for another podium finish. Frank Anelante finished fourth and Charles Shiner rounded out the top five.


Jimmy Dai holds a 95-88 lead over Kirk Weatherman in the Bertil Roos Winter Series standings after four races. Rookie Chris Wilcox and Gabe Jasper are tied for third-place with 84 points. Bryan Sircely is fifth at 81 points.


The Bertil Roos Winter Series returns to Palm Beach International Raceway for races No. 5 and No. 6 on Jan. 9-10.

Cornell Earns Sweep to Open Bertil Roos Winter Series

JUPITER, Fla. — Adam Cornell put on a dominating performance in the first couple of rounds of the Bertil Roos Winter Race Series at Palm Beach International Raceway.

He navigated the challenging 2.2-mile PBIR road course in 1:33.26 to earn the pole for the first Group 2 race. In the lead, he stayed out front for the win. He followed it up with another win in the second race.

Jeff Relic and Alex Benavtis each won races for the Group 1 drivers.

Phillip Jasper ran runner-up to Cornell in both Group 2 races. Jimmy Dai posted a pair of third-place runs to fill out the podium in both races.

Relic started from the pole position and parlayed it into a victory in the first Group 1 race. Benavtis got around Gabe Jasper for the runner-up spot. Jasper held on for a third-place finish.

Benavits assumed command of the second Group 2 race and earned the victory. Gabe Jasper came back strong with a second-place finish and Vinnie Virga rounded out the podium in third.

After the first two rounds of the Bertil Roos Winter Series, Cornell holds a 49-46 lead over Benavtis in the point standings. Phillip Jasper is third with 44 points, followed by Gabe Jasper with 41 points and Relic and Dai tied for fifth with 40 points each.
