JUPITER, Fla. — Jimmy Dai started off the Bertil Roos Winter Race Series in style with a sweep in the Oct. 25-26 season opener at Palm Beach International Raceway.
Dai ran a lap of 1:48.13 around the 10-turn, 2.2-mile road course to win the pole for the Group 2 race. He proceeded to race on to victory in the first race. Kirk Weatherman came across the finish line second, followed by Bob Perlmutter. Rookie Joe Lattanzi, who had the second fastest qualifying time, finished fourth and Reiner Oberst was fifth.
The dominance of Dai continued in the second Group 2 race, while Lattanzi stormed back to a second-place finish. Weatherman finished third with Perlmutter and Charles Shiner rounding out the top five.
Phillip Jasper set the fast time for Group 1 with lightning-fast 1:34.73 lap. He went on to win the first Group 1 race. Chris Wilcox made his debut with a second-place qualifying race and runner-up finish. Gabe Jasper was third, ahead of Frank Anelante and Bryan Sircely taking the fourth and fifth positions.
Wilcox took advantage of trouble by Phillip Jasper to win the second Group 1 race. Sircely rallied to finish second with Joe Dounchis in third. Anelante and Gabe Jasper rounded out the top five.
Dai has a 49-45 lead over Wilcox in the Winter Series points. Weatherman is third with 42 points, followed by Sirecly and Lattanzi with 40 points each.
The Bertil Roos Winter Race Series returns to Palm Beach International Raceway, Dec. 20-21.
