Dai, Oberst score Palm Beach winter victories
January 20, 2022
JUPITER, Fla. — Jimmy Dai and Reiner Oberst traded wins in rounds 7 & 8 of the Bertil Roos Winter Series at Palm Beach International Raceway.
Dai, who set the fast time in qualifying with a lap of 1:35.38, captured the win in the first race with Oberst hot on his trail. The roles were reversed in the second race on the uniquely designed 2.2-mile road course, featuring a 6/10-mile straight.
It was a flag-to-flag victory for Dai in the first race as he led all 12 laps. Oberst ran second the length of the race, while the action was hot and heavy behind them.
Jaimey Roth charged through the field to take over third place from Frank Anelante on lap 8. Roth remained there the rest of the race, while Anelante held on to the fourth-place finish. Charlie Shiner rounded out the top five.
Oberst got the best of Dai in the second race. They ran 1-2 throughout the 12-lap showdown with Oberst leading wire-to-wire.
Again, the real fight was for third where Roth and Anelante again battled for the position. Roth again took the final podium spot as Anelante posted another fourth-place finish. Oceane Nepola had a consistent drive to take fifth.
With the final pair of Winter Series races scheduled for Feb. 17-18 at PBIR, there’s a real fight for the overall championship.
Shiner holds a 146-145 lead over Dai in the championship standings. Bob Perlmutter is right behind with 140 points, while rookie Kelsey Pinowski and Anelante round out the top five.
