Rookie Cadwalader Scores First Bertil Roos Race Series Win

MILLVILLE, N.J. — Rookie driver Tommy Cadwalader wouldn’t be denied in the Bertil Roos Race Series races June 15 at New Jersey Raceway Park.

Cadwalader won the pole for the first of two Group 1 races around NJMP’s Lightning Course with a lap of 1:18.29 to edge defending series champion Andy Ourant for the top spot. In the race, Ourant got by Cadwalader to take the victory, while three-time series champion, Tim Nichols rounded out the podium finishers.

Glenn Brooks and Geoff Valentino filled out the top five.

In the second race, Cadwalader went to the front and scored a hard-fought win over Nichols. Valentino took the final podium spot. Vinnie Virga and Ira Nesbitt ended as the fourth and fifth-place finishers.

Derek Jose had the quick time in Group 2 qualifying with a “lightning-quick” lap at 1:17.65. Jose, who was coming off a pair of top-three finishes in the previous BRRS races at Virginia International Raceway, couldn’t hold off Frank Tiano, who charged from a fifth-place start for the win.

Jose finished second ahead of Seth Foley. Behind them, Gabe Jasper and Jimmy Dai took the fourth and fifth spots.

Foley was a man on a mission in the second Group 2 race and he beat Gabe Jasper to the finish line. Dai earned a podium finish, while a pair of rookies — Jake Bonilla and Britton Smith — rounded out the top five.

Foley emerged from his productive weekend with the points lead, holding a 117-114 advantage over Nichols. Valentino currently ranks third with 107 points, while Reiner Oberst and the rookie Cadwalader are tied for fourth with 102 points.

The series returns to New Jersey Motorsports Park and its Thunderbolt course for the next round of races June 28-29.
