Weatherman, Peppes Sweep NJMP Lightning Races
June 21, 2021
MILLVILLE, N.J. — Kirk Weatherman and Theo Peppes proved to be lightning fast on the New Jersey Motorsports Park Lightning Course during the Bertil Roos Race Series most recent event on Thursday, July 17.
Weatherman swept both of the Group 1 races, while Peppes was the man in front for the Group 2 races. In each case, the drivers scored wire-to-wire victories
The tone was set in Group 1 qualifying where Weatherman’s lap of 1:20.11 edged Geoff Valentino by .11 of a second. It set up a scenario where Valentino chased Weatherman throughout the first 15-lap race around the fast circuit.
Behind the lead duo, the battle raged over the entire race with Roger Gill taking third with a pass of Craig Curren on lap 12. Adam Colombo started third, but went off on turn 7 on the sixth lap. Curren finished fourth, while Colombo fought back to pass Frank Anelante for fifth.
Race No. 2 was more of the same out front with Weatherman and Valentino showing the way. However, the battle for third place was something to behold with Colombo and Gill trading the spot six times officially. Colombo ended with the spot in the end with Gill and Curren rounding out the top five.
Peppes and Javier Nazario were the two setting the pace in the first Group 2 race. In fact, the third through fifth-place drivers stayed in order throughout the 15-lap race. Yann de Rochefort, Bob Pearlmutter and Oceane Nepola placed in those positions.
The second race saw Peppes and Nazario run 1-2 over the first 10 laps. Peppes continued to run out front, but Nazario went off course, opening the door for Pearlmutter to take the runner-up spot. Nepola took the third spot with Nazario and de Rochefort behind them.
Valentino and Weatherman are now tied atop the series standings with 164 points apiece. Nazario ranks third with 148 points. Colombo with 147 and Pearlmutter with 123 fifth after eight rounds of competition.
Rounds 9 and 10 of the Bertil Roos Race Series are scheduled July 14-15 at Pocono Raceway.
